Barcelona talisman Ivan Rakitic has made a statement on social media as Paris Saint-Germain eye up activating the £112m buyout clause in his contract.

The Croatian international posted a picture on Instagram, with the caption “Forca Barca”, in a move that appeared to issue a statement of his intention to stay at the Nou Camp.

PSG have enquired about two Barca midfielders in the form of Rakitic and Sergio Busquets in the last week.

Barca moved quickly to secure the services of the Spanish holding-midfielder and his new deal is expected to be announced in September.

As for Rakitic, it is understood that the Catalan Giants are considering offering him an improved contract as a sign of his importance to the club, but they face a problem with their own strict wage policy – which outlines the club cannot spend more than around 73 percent of their revenues on player salaries.

The 30-year-old, who currently has three years left on his contract, saw his buyout clause increase from £89m (€100m) to £112m (€125m) after agreeing the new deal in 2017.

If Barca are to renegotiate Rakitic’s contract, they might have to move fast, as PSG have the funds to activate his buyout clause and the transfer deadline is only 10 days away.

Rakitic, who helped Croatia get to the Final of the World Cup in Russia, is on an estimated £150,000 a week in Spain and could be in line to double his salary if he signs for the Ligue 1 champions.

PSG are in the market for a new midfielder with Adrien.
