Red House wins DavidHall College’s sports meet

Red House at the weekend won the second bi-annual inter-house sports competition of DavidHall International College in Lagos. The event took place at Kings College International School at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island.

At the end of the events, Red House, tagged Daniel Danladi House, finished tops with seven gold, 10 silver, and eight bronze medals to push Yellow House (Ozah-Osho House) to the second position with seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals. Blue House tagged (G. Odufuwa House) placed third with seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals, just as Green House (G.O. Yishawu House) finished in fourth position with five gold, seven silver and five bronze medals. The march past event was won by Daniel Danladi’s Red House.

The inter-house sports competition was attended by parents and guardians, who came from far and near to support their children.Speaking at the occasion, the school’s proprietress, Mrs Abike Olayinka Shokoya commended the teachers for a job well done, just as she praised the various sponsors for their support.

“Parents should allow their children to take part in sporting activities because sport is life,” Olayinka said.Also speaking, Mr. Steven Onyemaraechi, who represented the Patron and sponsor of Green House, Mr. Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu, described sports as ‘very important’ in a nation building, urging the federal government of Nigeria to take it seriously. He enjoined students to combine sports with their education.

On his part, Patron to the Red House, Mr Daniel Danladi, said that sports is a platform that brings students together and urged students of DavidHall Schools to see themselves as a winner.The Sports Chairman and House Master of Red House, Mr Taiwo Ogunrinde was excited over the victory of his students.

One of their students, Uchechukwu Nweke, who won 100m, 200m, long jump and discus events for Red House, told The Guardian he would like to become a professional athlete, urging government to look into grassroots sports and provide necessary equipment for students to train.

Another student, Mercy Uwah, who won the 100m and 800m for Yellow House said she is very happy to be among the winners, just as she urged her fellow students to always do excise to keep fit.
