Rivers Angels vow to bounce back as Edo boosts NWFL Super Four

Still reeling from their unexpected 0-2 loss to Delta Queens, Rivers Angels’ Coach, Edwin Okon says he will work hard to ensure his girls bounced back to reckon in the on-going Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super Four Championship holding in Benin.
 
Delta Queens and Nasarawa Amazons opened the competition with victories against Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens respectively at the competition, which kicked off on Monday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium,  Benin.

Nasarawa Amazons defeated Bayelsa Queens  1-0 in the first match of the competition, while Delta Queens subdued Rivers Angels in the second match.Speaking on the game, Okon said his team did their best, but lost to some minor mistakes, which they will correct in subsequent matches.

“The competition here shows how tough the Nigerian League is. We lost today, but that is not the end of the competition for us. You will see a different Rivers Angels in subsequent games.”

The goal came in the first half of the match via a spot kick that was neatly converted by the team captain.The women league reigning champions, Rivers Angel lost to first half goals scored by Saheed Adebisi and Okezie Rosemary.

The winner of the six-day Super Four Championship will go home with a prize money of N3 million, while the second and third placed teams will be rewarded with N2 million and N1 million respectively.The championship featuring the first and runners up of both the northern and southern conference of the NWFL, is being sponsored by the Edo government.It was kicked off by the state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
