Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr says he hopes to see his side score from open play when they face Cape Verde in Tuesday’s Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier.

The Eagles got the job done against the Lone Star last Saturday, winning 2-0 via a pair of penalties to take maximum points and retain control of the group ahead of their final fixture at the Teslim Balogun stadium.

Victor Osimhen scored in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after Kelechi Iheanacho was fouled by Liberia keeper Boison Wynney while Musa came off the bench late on to add a 94th-minute spot-kick after Wynney committed another foul, this time on Napoli striker Osimhen.

“We were not able to score from open play but they were clear penalties against Liberia,” Rohr said ahead of the game.

“When you score two goals, it is good for the team.

“I would prefer to score normal goals from open play against Cape Verde. When you score two goals, it’s good for the team and it’s not a disappointment because those penalties were in one-v-one situations.

“If there was no mistake or foul we would have scored. I’m happy we did not concede. The most important thing is to score goals to qualify.

The Franco-German also who will be in charge of his 54th game on Tuesday (today), expressed confidence that the three-time African champions beat the Sharks, just as they did when both teams met at the Estadio Municipal Adérito Sena on the island of Mindelo in the reverse fixture on September 7.

“We have a job on our hands and that is to win tomorrow (today). It is important to win so as to be sure of where you will be at the end of the day. We are top of the table now and a win keeps us there and sends us to the final knockout round. Our approach will be to win. The players are looking forward to doing that
