The board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) says it has embarked on a talent hunt that will take it to all the corners of the country.

Rugby debuted at the just concluded National Youth Sports Festival, which took place in Ilorin, Kwara State and according to the NRFF, the festival was strategic in its road map to achieving the set goals.

At the festival, the NRFF organised a demonstration rugby sevens game, which featured Kwara U-16 boys and girls’ teams against their counterparts from Osun State. The match was watched by Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung and Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, who were delighted in the emergence of rugby at the youth sports festival.

The federation believes the inclusion of rugby as a demonstration sport at the National
Youths Sports Festival will help it lobby for full participation of the game in the next festival, as well as the National Sports Festival.

According to NRFF President, Kelechukwu Mbagwu, the new board is gradually accomplishing its agenda by ensuring a rapid spread of the sport into schools across the country.

He noted that Dalung was delighted when he sighted the rugby ball, adding that the minister took pictures with the rugby team and encouraged the pupils to be disciplined and focused to excel in the game.
