Jose Mourinho has finally returned to his coaching duties as he has been appointed Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager after the club announced Mauricio Pochettino’s departure on Tuesday.
The Portuguese coach has signed a contract with the north London club that runs until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Mourinho says he excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters.
“The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me” he said.
The club’s chairman Daniel Levy said: “In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football.
“He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
Mourinho returns to football nearly a year after been sacked by Manchester United.
The 56-year-old has won 25 major trophies in his career, including titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.
But there is certainly a fear that Mourinho has fallen behind the great managerial minds in the game after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.
That said, one source close to Mourinho told The Athletic that he is “always evolving as a man and a manager”.

“If you’re looking long-term, Mourinho doesn’t work. If you’re looking for two years, he does.”
Pochettino was sacked on Tuesday after the club’s miserable start to the 2019/20 season.
They are currently 14th in the Premier League table, without a win in five matches and they last won away in the league back in January.
The Argentinian coach enjoyed many highs at the club, including last season’s run to the Champions League final.
But he failed to land a major trophy and after his relationship deteriorated with both Levy and the players, the decision was made to sack him.
