The finalists of this year’s Delta State Principals’ Cup say they cannot wait to fight for the coveted trophy. Zenith Bank Plc is the sponsors of the youth football competition, which is in its third edition.

Obule Integrated School, Sapele and Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku are to compete for honours in the final while Ekpan Secondary School and Comprehensive secondary school will fight for bronze clash in the third place shortly before the final.

The final of the competition originally scheduled for February 15 this year was moved due to the general elections, just as the involvement of the state in the series of international games at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, made it tough for the organisers to pick a date.

But at the weekend, the final was fixed for April 1 with the number one citizen of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa confirmed for the final.

Head of the organizing team, Tony Pemu told journalists yesterday that all the four teams competing on the final day are excited about the April 1 date.

Pemu said: “They are happy because now they know what they working for has a date. They are now going to double their preparatory work.

“I am aware they are also excited about meeting Governor Okowa one-on-one that day. It is almost a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The competition began in October last year with close to 1,000 private and secondary schools competing for honours from all the 25 Local Governments in the state.
