SBL wins global quality awards

The Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) has been awarded the International High Quality Trophy 2015 and the Crystal Prestige Trophy 2015 by the Brussels-based International Institute for Quality Selections.
SBL’s products, the Serengeti Premium Larger was also awarded Gold Medal 2015 by the same institute. The institute, which is a commercial company, organises an annual competition called the Monde Selection.

This yearly competition was started in 1961. “It is non-competitive award exercise open to food and drink products. Consumer products are tested to grant them a quality label,” said SBL’s Corporate Relations Manager, Mr Abass Abraham.

Explaining on the winning criteria process, Mr Abraham said the minimum score is 60 per cent. Products that score between 60 and 69 per cent are awarded Bronze Quality Award.

Products which score between 70 and 79 per cent receive Silver Quality Award while products which score between 80 and 89 per cent are awarded Gold Quality Award.

Products which score between 90 and 100 per cent receive Grand Gold Quality Award. “Going by this selection criterion, the Tanzania’s most popular beer brand, the Serengeti Premium Larger has been awarded the gold medal 2015,” he noted.

According to SBL official, the International High Quality Trophy is awarded to (a producer of or) a product that achieves a high quality level for three consecutive years, high quality level embraces gold award and grand gold award.

“The SBL has met this criterion, putting Tanzania on commercial competitive international map,” he said. The Crystal Prestige Trophy is granted to outstanding companies that have received either a grand gold, gold, silver or bronze award in 10 consecutive years.

The SBL has also met this criterion hence qualifying for the award and earning Tanzania some international business fame.

On his part, the Quality Systems Manager, SBL, Mr Paul Kitambi, said the company will continue to produce quality products to be competitive in and outside Tanzania.
