Our correspondent learnt that the police in the state had increased their presence in the villages, with the deployment of the Police Mobile Force and Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Teachers and    pupils reportedly deserted both primary and secondary schools in Alabata villages for fear of being attacked by the herdsmen.

The PUNCH had exclusively reported that OLG Primary School, Alabata, Alabata Community High School and six other schools in the area had been deserted since the attacks reportedly carried out by herdsmen in some parts of the villages.

Suspected herdsmen   invaded Seriki village and attacked   a 76-year-old   village head, Chief Akanmu Laisi, about a month ago.

They were also said to have carried out another attack in Adao village, stabbing a 49-year-old farmer, Rafiu Showemimo, to death a week ago.

Our correspondent, who visited some affected schools on Monday, observed that academic activities had resumed at various schools in the villages.

The Olu of Alabata, Chief Sanusi Wahab, also confirmed that the schools had been reopened.

Spokesman for the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said security had been beefed up in the villages.

However, Oyeyemi disagreed that schools were deserted following attacks by herdsmen in the villages.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police has held a security meeting with the villagers, Fulani herdsmen and resolutions have been made.”
