A 32-year-old security guard, John Onah, who allegedly stole a phone and other items worth N77,000 from his employer,was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who resides at Ogba area of Ikeja, is facing a charge of stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The accused committed the offence on Jan. 2 at Jumia (an online mall) on Surulere Street, Acme Road, Ogba., Police Prosecutor Kenrich Nomayo, told the court.
He alleged that the accused stole a phone, a wristwatch and phone accessories worth N77, 000, property of Jumia.
Nomayo said the guard entered the company’s warehouse and stole a parcel containing a phone and other items.

“The accused was caught by his supervisor, who noticed that Onah was using a new phone and a wristwatch that ordinarily he could not afford.
“The supervisor reported the accused to one of their officers, who threatened to hand over Onah to the police if he does not confess.
“He confessed to the crime because he thought it was an old stock and that the company was no longer using them,” he said.
Nomayo said the case was reported to the police, who “invited” him for questioning.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes seven years imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the same amount and adjourned the case until Feb. 7 for mention.
