Francisca swallowed again, her heart drumming like it was trying to escape from her chest. She had been roaming the corridor of Mrs Adepeju’s office for over 15 minutes.
Why me O Lord! she sighed, eyeing the ceiling. The day she found out that Mrs Adepeju would be her project supervisor, her stomach has turned inside out.
The woman was simply a nightmare: she nags, snaps, and curses. Moreso, she seems to enjoy lashing out at ladies, most especially those that she believes are “sinful”. If she had been given to Mrs Ishola or any of the male lecturers besides the HOD, it would have been great.
Francisca assessed herself again. She was wearing a floor length skirt, long-sleeved shirt, no makeup, no hair do; all to please this woman.
“Okay” she said to herself, “here we go”. She did the sign of the cross for the sixth time and gently knocked on the door….no answer. She knocked again…no response.
Francisca looked at her wristwatch, it was 2:15 pm. Mrs Adepeju had set aside 2-4 pm every Thursday for attending to her supervisees. If she missed today, she would have to wait another whole week. She knocked again and this time she entered.
As she stepped into the office and was about closing the door behind her, she heard a thunderous roar -“Are you stupid? Get out! Who told you to come in? Get out! What nerve, get out! Stupid girl!
Francisca hurried out and shut the door. Her heart somersaulted, her legs wobbled, her eyes stung with tears. Another week wasted. As she approached the stairs, she wondered if she should have replied the woman. Something like …. “No ma, I am not stupid. I am here at the scheduled time so you can look at my suggested project topics, advice, and approve one of the topic.
Damn it! It’s been 6 weeks ma; 6 weeks! I had knocked on the door thrice before entering. For the love of God, you have said “get out” 3 times now; I heard you the first time! Stupid woman…amoosu!
