The Nigerian Army has said 25 soldiers from 13 Brigades of Nigerian Army Calabar, who were involved in a very serious motor accident are now in stable condition at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Calabar.
The information officer of the 13 Brigade Calabar, Captain Tope Aluko, confirmed the accident, adding that there was no cause for alarm.
The accident occurred on Friday night along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was on a high speed when the accident happened.
“Many of them had their heads smashed and eyes burst. Several others were in varying degrees of injury.
“It was raining and we saw that the army truck was on top speed. It could not slow down at the speed breaker point, so it hit the breaker, jumped and smashed the Sienna car which was kept for sale.
“They fell into a big gutter. We had to help evacuate them. They have been taken to Navy Hospital in Calabar,” Etim Akpan, one of the eyewitnesses said.
Daily Trust learnt that the soldiers were heading to Ogoja.
