Mrs Soyebi Okuwakemi emerges best graduating student, bagged two awards at the graduation ceremony for the first cohort of Women and Youth Entrepreneurship Programme at the Chamber’s headquarters organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce(NBCC).
This initiative, spearheaded by NBCC President and Chairman of Council, Ray Atelly, frpa, is designed to equip women and young people with vocational skills to combat rising unemployment in Nigeria.
President Atelly, in his inauguration, highlighted his vision of addressing unemployment by creating opportunities for skill acquisition and personal value-building. Speaking at the ceremony, he expressed excitement and fulfilment in seeing the initiative come to life. He emphasized the importance of empowering young people, a mission he has pursued for over 30 years. Atelly also acknowledged the challenges many face due to limited resources and unsupportive environments, which often hinder personal and professional success.
The graduation ceremony saw the attendance of notable dignitaries who supported the initiative. Dr. Ama Onyerinma, Vice-Chair and Co-Founder of Africa Sustainable Trade and Immediate Past Chair of the British Business Group Nigeria, delivered an inspirational talk on intentionality, goal-setting, and the importance of strategic networking in achieving success. She stressed that intentional actions and meaningful connections are crucial for personal and career growth.
Adenike Macaulay, CEO of Wakanow, also addressed the graduates, urging them to continue building on the skills they acquired. She emphasized the need to optimize these skills and continuously learn in order to lay a strong foundation for future success.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates to 108 graduates out of 125 participants. The graduates showcased their products and goods, demonstrating the practical skills they had acquired. The event generated excitement for the next cohort, with 180 participants already registered for the session beginning on September 13, 2024.
