Arrangements have reached conclusive stages for the formal unveiling of Wole Soyinka’s latest Interventions Series, Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?: Gani’s Unfinished Business. The event holds on August 2, 2018 at the Freedom Park (Kongi Art Gallery), Broad Street, Lagos Island. Time is 11.30am.

Soyinka’s Intervention VIII, which was supposed to have been launched on July 3, was postponed as a result of the massive herdsmen killings in Jos and the Lagos tanker explosion.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? is a Latin phrase found in the work of the Roman poet Juvenal from his Satires (Satire VI, lines 347–348). It is literally translated as ‘Who will guard the guards themselves?’ It is also known by variant translations.

The original context deals with the problem of ensuring marital fidelity, though it is now commonly used more generally to refer to the problem of controlling the actions of persons in positions of power, an issue discussed by Plato in the Republic.

It promises to be a hard-hitting, interactive and engaging session. Among Soyinka’s interlocutors are, Kunle Ajibade, a renowned journalist, editor, publisher, The News/PM News and author of Jailed for Life: A Reporter’s Prison Notes; Kadaria Ahmed, journalist, media entrepreneur and television host; Akin Osuntokun, political scientist, strategist and writer, former managing director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); Femi Falana SAN, lawyer and human rights activist and Kayode Komolafe, journalist, writer and deputy managing director, Thisday Newspapers.“It promises to be a stimulating conversation on current socio-political matters in the country,” said the book’s publishers, Bookcraft Limited.
