2018 Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School yearly inter-house sports competition held at the CMS Grammar School Sports Complex in Bariga, Lagos State.
St. Peter’s House (Green) has dethroned St. James’ House (Blue) to win the 2018 Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School yearly inter-house sports competition held at the CMS Grammar School Sports Complex in Bariga, Lagos State.
At the event attended by students and their parents, who came to cheer their wards, St. Peter’s came tops with 17 gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals.
The defending champions, St. James’ finished second with 13 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals, while St. Bartholomew’s House (Red) came third with 11 gold, 18 silver and 11 bronze medals.
The fourth position as won by St. Stephen’s House (Yellow), which finished with five gold, seven silver and 15 bronze medals.
In the march past, St. James won with 91 points, while St. Peter’s came second with 84 points, as St. Bartholomew’s and St. Stephen’s finished third and fourth with 81 and 80 points respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, the school’s Principal, Ven. Tunde Oduwole said the institution was built to offer students other exceptional chances to realise their full potentials aside the school’s curriculum.
“At Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School, sport is part of our cardinal activities because it helps to develop a sound mind and physically fit body. I am excited because there is so much future for Nigeria in terms of participating in the school sports.
“If we are able to develop school sports it can go back into days of bringing up talents in its raw, innocent, clean forms.
This year’s competition has not only featured the traditional sports, we have also brought in a few new events that will help develop the children in all facets of international sports so that the children are not only being prepared for our environment, but for global events,” he said.
While appealing to parents to allow their wards take part fully in sports, Ven. Oduwole said, “It is not only in book study that you get the best out of a child. Parents should let children freely and generously use their talents to express themselves, develop their self-esteem and come out confidently in other various activities.
“We take the children through various sports so that all over the world, whatever their pears are doing there, they also will be able to say we are there. So we can be sure that if anyone brings his child to Bishop Howells, his ward is already on the part to greatness. That is our focus and we will get there,” he stated.
