• ‘Why Nigeria clubs fail in CAF championships’
Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu has advised Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr to pay more attention to the grooming of quality midfielders that can create chances for strikers to score goals at the forthcoming Russia 2018 World Cup.

He noted that the Super Eagles has not been scoring many goals because the team lacks a playmaker that can spread good passes to the strikers.

The former national team captain, who also said the Super Eagles do not have out standing strikers, called on the team’s technical crew to work hard to find a solution to the team’s ills, saying Nigeria cannot succeed in Russia if it failed to take its chances during matches.

Chukwu, however, admitted that the Super Eagles has quality young players that could stun their opponents at the World Cup, stressing that bringing out the best in the players from all departments of the team should be the focal point for the coaches when assembling their team for the World Cup.

“We had many strikers with different qualities during my days and so we did not face these challenges. That is not to say that the Eagles do not have quality players that can excel at the Mundial,” he said.

On Nigerian clubs failure to rise to the occasion at CAF championships, Chukwu said, “Nigerian clubs fail to survive at CAF championship because the country’s domestic players do not spend much time in the league. They spend one or two seasons in a club and leave. If there were consistency of players in a team for five years or more, Nigerian teams would perform well in continental engagements.

“This is the advantage their counterparts in North Africa and other country’s in Africa have. Inconsistency in a particular team is the major bane behind our clubs fail in CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup,” he said.
