More than eight months after winning the African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon for a record eight times, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are yet to regroup for a friendly, members of the team said on Tuesday.

“Over 8 months without regrouping. This is no longer. What is our vision,” said Asisat Oshoala on her Instagram page.

The Super Falcons last played on December 3, 2016, in the finals of the AWCON against host Cameroon.

After their successful campaign in Cameroon, the members of the team were not paid their allowances. Protests which followed lasted for days.

Now,  the players are worried that a long period of inactivity would jeopardise the team’s top spot on the continent.

“Other African nations have caught up with us, we’re still a shadow of ourselves on the world stage,” said Desire Oparanozie who plays for EA Guingamp in France.

“Yet it doesn’t bother the people leading us. Let’s build for the younger generation. We need international/quality friendlies.”
