Thugs Invade Progress FM In Gombe

Scores of suspected political thugs and hoodlums, yesterday, invaded the premises of Gombe-based radio station, Progress FM, operating on frequency 97.3.

The suspects swooped in on the premises of the station during a political rally organised to welcome Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo back to the state. An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP Sunday that while the entourage that picked governor Dankwambo from the Gombe International airport was returning to Gombe town, the thugs stopped over at the station, which was along the road and started stoning.

He said the thugs made an attempt to break into the station but they failed to do so because the gate was locked by the security, however, they began throwing stones into the premises, destroying glasses.

He said that the suspected political thugs took to their heels before the arrival of policemen.

As at the time of filing this report, a staff at the station, told our reporter that the situation is under control and they have since resumed transmission.
