Top Nigerian Leaders Converge for Chido Onumah’s 60th Symposium

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, will serve as Special Guest of Honour at a symposium organised to mark the 60th birthday of renowned journalist and rights activist, Chido Onumah.

Dr Onumah, co-publisher of Ikengaonline, a South East-focused accountability and good governance platform, is being honoured by friends and associates.
The event is scheduled to hold on Friday, April 10, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre.

According to the organisers, the event, slated for 3:00 p.m., will be chaired by former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
Former Minister of Education and governance advocate, Oby Ezekwesili, will participate as a panelist. Other discussants include human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN); Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo; and Ebenezer Wikina.

In a statement issued by Dapo Olorunyomi on behalf of the organising committee, the symposium is themed, “Formation or Nation Building: Nigeria’s Troubled Quest for a Modern Federal Republic.”
The keynote address will be delivered by the National Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni, Yakubu Ochefu.
Born in 1966, Onumah is a veteran journalist and activist who has worked as a media trainer across Nigeria, Ghana, Canada, India, the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe.

He holds a PhD in Communication and Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. He is also Coordinator of the African Center for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) and author of several books, including We Are All Biafrans.

Onumah was also a columnist for The Punch and Premium Times, where he serves as a member of the Editorial Board.
