Former Tottenham forward David Ginola believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side can challenge for the Champions League following their stunning comeback against Juventus in Turin.

Tottenham got off to a disastrous start and found themselves two goals down after the opening nine minutes, courtesy of strikes from Gonzalo Higuain.

But Pochettino’s men showed character to overturn the two-goal deficit to snatch a draw and the upper-hand heading into the second leg of their last 16 tie with last season’s finalists.

Tottenham have not reached the last eight of the competition since 2011 but Ginola insisted Tuesday’s performance proved they can compete with Europe’s powerhouses.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former White Hart Lane hero said: ‘Could Tottenham win the Champions League? Why not?

“They are in the competition, and they showed last night that they are capable of doing something.

“They have the potential. They have a striker who can score goals, they’ve got a great goalkeeper, a great manager and overall the team and the shape are good.

“Anything is possible with Spurs. But there are so many great teams in this competition – Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are great as well.

“This year is a very open competition, to say who will win the Champions League this season is very hard to say.’
Spurs will have sometime to reflect on their heroics in Italy with the return leg at Wembley Stadium not until next month.
