An okada rider was crushed  to death on Sunday evening by a heavy-duty truck at the collapsed section of East-West road.
The accident happened close to Indorama/Akpajo interjection road in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Witnesses said the deceased was knocked down by the truck as the driver of the heavy duty truck tried to maneuver the collapsed section of the road and the rear tyre of the truck crushed the head of the Okada rider.
The incident caused traffic gridlock at a section of the road, as passersby and sympathizers made efforts to pulled the deceased and the bike from the truck.
“The incident happened on Sunday evening. The Okada rider was very close to the trailer when the driver tried to maneuver a collapsed section of the road.
“The trailer knocked down the Okada man and his head was rammed against the tyre.
“It was a gory site as the head the Okada rider was crushed beyond recognition,” an eyewitness said.
The eyewitness blamed the incident on the dilapidated state of the East-West road, saying that the incident would have been averted if the road is in good state.
He said that the deceased had been evacuated for burial.
It would be recalled that youths of Eleme had barricaded the East West road last month for one week in protest against the deplorable condition of the road.
The protesters vacated the road one week after, when the Federal Government assured them that the road would be fixed in a shortest possible time.
