No matter how life evolves, surprises never get old and life is a leveller. While some defining
experiences were brought to an end, others were rather interesting. From the death of a
promising man to facing the law for fun.

Here is a rundown of the week:

Jada in an August affair?

LOS ANGELES, CA – JUNE 25: August Alsina (L) and Jada Pinkett Smith at the 2017 BET Awards at Staples Center on June 25, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Paras Griffin/Getty Images for BET)

After August Alsina appeared on Jada Pinkett Smith’s highly-popular Red Table Talk
show, to speak on his struggles with drug addiction, while she spoke about her past sex addiction, they became close. Now, a recent release of Alsina’s cover of Kehlani’s “Nunya” has people he and
Jada are dating. In the video, he is seen having a text conversation with a woman named ‘Koren’
(Jada’s middle name) and tells her that he wants more from his girlfriend. When he sings, “You’re just an actress putting on a show,” a GIF of Jada appears on the screen starting a
conversation on if they are dating. She also appears a second time.

Killer driver!

21-year-old Samantha Josephson ordered an Uber to take her to her destination only to meet her
untimely death because of an unfortunate mistake. Officers in South Carolina said at a news
conference that they have arrested a suspect, 24-year-old Nathaniel Rowland who faces charges
in the murder and kidnapping of the university student. After she disappeared on Friday, her
roommates became worried and called on the police. They went further by describing the car to
people. Unfortunately, Hunters found her body in a “very rural” area outside her area that same
day. Fortunately, an officer identified the car she entered leading to the suspect’s arrest. Safety
measures, yes?

Birthday invite? No thanks!

Tajikistan has fined a pop star for holding a birthday at home with friends rather than family
members only as required by a restrictive law on private celebrations. State prosecutors said 33-
year-old singer Firuza Hafizova was fined $530 (N190,800) for violating the law after a video
emerged of her dancing at home with friends. The law on private celebrations was passed in
2007 to discourage lavish spending on weddings and other events in the impoverished Central
Asian country. As Hafizova “celebrated her birthday at her home on December 12 from 8 to 11
pm local time, her girlfriends and acquaintances arrived to congratulate her”, prosecutors said in
a statement on Tuesday. Birthdays should be celebrated “in the family circle”, it said. The amount levied against Hafizova worth more than two month’s wages for the average Tajik.

#JusticeForKolade

Kolade Johnson had gone to a football viewing centre like every other football enthusiast in
Nigeria when he was killed by a stray bullet. His death caused by a member of the anti-cultism
police, Gbagada sparked a national outrage calling for the end to the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad (SARS) again. The presidency reacting to the death expressed its condolences and announced that the team responsible had been apprehended. With the rising call to show the
faces of the team, police ambassador Ruggedman got Twitter “blocked” by ACP Yomi Shogunle
for joining the cause. And as for the fitness of the officers? Say no to body-shaming. It is
interesting to note that a picture showing a young man prostrate to one of the officers surfaced
only a week before.

Mystery man caught?

Los Angeles Police Department has named one Eric Holder as a suspect in the shooting death of
Grammy-nominated American rapper Nipsey Hussle. 33-year-old Hussle was shot dead in front
of his clothing store in Los Angeles, sparking an outpouring of grief from fellow celebrities as
the city’s police blamed “senseless gun violence.” Local media reported that he was shot at close
range, by a man who fled in a getaway car. Hussle was known for his commitment towards
helping ravaged communities and giving children in his neighbourhood a future. There are
reports that his security was tightened during his last video shoots. Also, conspiracy theorists
have linked his death to his documentary on Dr Sebi.
