Donald Trump has warned that because of “killing of Christians” his country can invade Nigeria to “deal with religious intolerance”.
Listen, it has nothing to do with an alleged “killing of Christians”. IT IS ALL ABOUT OIL AND THE POTENTIAL FALL OF THE ALMIGHTY US DOLLARS!
And it is bound to fail. But Nigerians need to know that:
Dangote refinery is an headache to United States. And that is why US’s nose is being turned.
The pattern for decades had been that Africa (Nigeria, Angola, Egypt et all) drills the oil and the West refines it, Africa buys it back refined at bogus rates; ensuring jobs and profit for the West, and penury and “development aid” for Africa. Remember also that the medium of transaction is the almighty US dollars, strengthening the economy of the self appointed policeman of the world.

Now Dangote Refinery came with a 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery right in the heart of Africa. Result for the US? US fuel exports has taken a massive hit. Africa for the first time says, thus far and no more! We will refine our crude locally. Keep your western refineries. What effrontery.
Now, in what currency is Dangote willing to trade? For now in US dollars. But imagine if Nigeria begins to trade in other currencies like Naira, Yuan, and does settlement in an Africa-centric payment system?
This will spell the death knell for US’ dollar domination. The US capitalist set-up cannot thrive in a competitive environment. It will lead to a meltdown of its economy as one of its main stay is global use of the dollar as medium of universal transaction.
To complicate matters, Nigeria is entering into new partnerships with other bloc leaders – China, Russia and Brazil – in refinery deals. This makes the US jealous, having taken Nigeria for granted because of bad leadership over the decades. Now, Dangote refinery runs on Chinese funding and Indian technology, two services that the US used to monopolize.
Now consider that this means: Dangote refinery has shown what is possible – Africa can be independent economically if only we have more leaders with enough courage. How do think the IS will take that? Panic!!
But the reality of global geo-politics tells me that the US will fail in its threat. What I believe Trumps want is an art of the deal – what comes to the US by way of continued relevance. Thats why suddenly, the US that failed for years to aid Nigeria tackle Boko Haram and insurgency, now all of a sudden realize that there’s “genocide against Christians”!
Dangote’s refinery isn’t just refining oil, it is refining Africa’s pride, power, and perspective.
This in a nutshell is why Donald Trump now knows there’s a country called Nigeria, with a massive young population with potentials for years of consumption, but US may lose out from this bourgeoning market!
He will fail because other major geo-political powers have also had enough of America’s gra gra.
