Two Policemen Killed As Robbers Make Away With Cash, Rifles

Two riot policemen of the Rivers State Command were on Monday killed by armed robbers in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The gunmen, who escaped with huge sum of money the security personnel were escorting in a bullion van, also made away with the rifles of the policemen shot at close range.

The two policemen were in a Toyota Camry saloon car when the criminals rained bullets on them in the afternoon.

It was gathered many passersby were also injured in the sad incident that took place at Ojoto-Timber in Mile Two, Diobu, Port Harcourt, which is not far from a police station.

The armed robbers operated without any challenge and quickly escaped amid sporadic gunshots into the air to scare residents and passersby.

Long after the criminals escaped, some policemen arrived at the scene and moved away the bodies of their colleagues still lying in the Toyota Camry car.

Rivers Police Spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident.

He stated Police Commissioner, Usman Belel, had ordered detailed investigation into the robbery. [THE NATION]
