The newer version of automobile system from 2008 above come with a tyre pressure monitoring system as a result of fatalities which were attributed to Firestone tyres that lost their tread when they were run underinflated, and friction heated them beyond the thermal capacity they can handle. The tires blew out or delaminated, and this led to the rollover of the vehicles they were on. Most of those vehicles were Ford Explorers, and many times one or more of the occupants died

The operational working principle of the system is based two categories namely: Direct method and Indirect method
DIRECT METHOD: Direct TPMS monitors the actual air pressure inside each tire via a sensor mounted within the tire.
INDIRECT METHOD: Indirect TPMS measures tire pressure by monitoring the speed and rotation of each individual wheel. When a significant variation in speed and rotation is detected in one or more wheels when compared with the others, it is often an indication of under-inflation. This information is then transmitted to the vehicle’s on-board computer, and the driver is alerted.

Which simply means that one of your vehicle tyre is 25% below the manufacturer’s recommended pressure capacity.
NECESSITIES AFTER WHICH YOU’RE ALERTED BY THE SIGN ON YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL.
• Safely pull out of the traffic to check for the defected tire.
• If no blowout is found then check the pressure in each of the tire including the spare against the manufacturer’s recommendation.
• Seek assistance of a professional tire technician to check the pressure and do the necessary top-up.
• The TPMS alertness has to go off automatically or sometimes require the help of an expert to RESET the system.
NB; IF THE INDICATOR DOESN’T GO OFF AFTERWHICH THE TIRE PRESSURE ARE SATISFACTORILY AT THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDED PRESSURE THEN THE TPMS MODULE, WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OR THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SENSOR HAS TO CHECKED FOR THEIR FUNCTIOPNABILITY OR MAYBE THE CAN COMMUNICATION IS NOT RECEIVING READING FROM ONE OR MORE SENSOR.
