United Kingdom-based undefeated current African Boxing champion and Skysports prize-fighter winner, Larry ‘The Natural’ Ekundayo is set to battle Australian title holder, Kris George in a Commonwealth welterweight championship fight in June.

The fight, which would be on a major television promotion in the United Kingdom, promises a lot of excitement with Ekundayo declaring that he has been working hard to be fit ahead of the fight.

As part of preparations for the Commonwealth fight, Ekundayo and former world title challenger, Olusegun Ajose and their team took time off training camp to pay a courtesy visit to Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II in London, to receive royal blessings during the monarch’s historic royal visit to the U.K recently.

The Ooni said he would join the Alaafin of Oyo to support the boxers and urged all Nigerians in the U.K, and Europe to be at the fight to support Ekundayo.

Speaking at the event, Ben Gray, Commercial Agent for the boxers, reiterated the monarch’s call for support from Nigerians. He pointed out the fact that out of the eight heavyweight champions produced by Great Britain, three have originally hailed from Nigeria. They are Herbie Hide, Henry Akinwande and Anthony Joshua.

He added that Ekundayo and Ajose have chosen to fly the flag of their fatherland, and as such, both boxers should be fully embraced and supported to deliver success to Nigerians in the colours of their own flag, rather than those of other countries.

Recently, the House of Representatives recently passed a motion moved by Rita Orji (Chair, House Committee on Diaspora) pledging total support for Larry Ekundayo in his quest to return boxing glory to Nigeria.
