Speaking at the launch of Kiira Motors Business case in Kampala, Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said the government will support Kiira project to ensure that vehicles are manufactured in Uganda.
“This is a step in ensuring we become original automotive manufacturer. It is a great opportunity for the development of our country. The government will support Kiira Motors to ensure that vehicles are manufactured in Uganda,” the Premier said.
Rugunda commended the international partners for working closely with Makerere University on the project.

East Africa’s first hybrid vehicle, the Kiira EV SMACK, was developed by Uganda. It’s first sedan hybrid electronic vehicle in the region.
Hybrid-electric vehicles combine the benefits of gasoline engines and electric motors and can be configured to obtain different objectives, such as improved fuel economy, increased power, or additional auxiliary power for electronic devices and power tools.
The Kiira EV project received 100 acres of land at the Jinja Industrial and Business Park where the assembly line will be built on the land.
