Head Coach of Union Bank Table Tennis team, Samson Ajayi, has said he is optimistic of retaining the titles his team won last year, as the 49th Asoju Oba serves off tomorrow.

The championship, which is slated to run from November 27 to December 1, 2017, will hold at the Okoya Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Eleven titles in the men, women and cadet’s categories would be fought for and Ajayi believes that his team, which is the defending champion would triumph again.

Ajayi, who commended the management of Union Bank for the exposure gained during the preparations in Ilorin, Kwara State, said this would serve as a morale booster to the team in the tourney and in other upcoming championships.

“Last year’s feat was not a fluke and Union Bank stars are itching to dazzle once again. The likes of Adeyinka Ahmed, Aziz Folake, Hassan Nurudeen, Ayinla Emmanuel, Bose Odusanya, Ayila Alimat, Amu Anjuwon, Aregbesola Animota, and others are some of the nation’s best players.

“Union Bank believes in constant development of talents and they have been fully equipped to dazzle at the tournament,” he said.

He also disclosed that other than the Asoju Oba Cup, the team would feature in the national and Commonwealth Games’ trials before the year runs out.
