First, let us attempt to understand the two major variables in this discourse. One is the word Unleash, a verb, which connotes “to let loose, to set free, to allow to run free, to allow to “run riot”, to unlock”. The other is the word Potential, which could be said to mean “possible, budding, prospective, impending” giant in you, waiting to be set loose. It is your hiding natural ability, when properly, efficiently and effectively used will put you on the path of success. Brian Tracy says “The potential of the average person is like a huge ocean unsailed, a new continent unexplored, a world of possibilities waiting to be released and channelled toward some great good”. Your potential is your unploughed field.
There is something in everybody, hiding, budding, locked up and begging to be set loose. There is the possibility of someone dying with it, inside, untapped; there is possibility of someone wasting it. Everyman is born for a unique assignment by God and designed to make impact, and the resources for this are already deposited in every man. These are the potentials. You have the potential to become anything you want to become. We are leaving today in perhaps the very best time in all human history. There have never been opportunities and possibilities for more people to accomplish more of their goals than now. Now people make money from anything than in the past. People make money from spiritual things and mundane things. You have the potential to learn, to think and to create. Potentials to act, to work, to solve problems because there will always be problems for you to solve. Without problems there won’t be success. Your potential is your meal ticket; your potential is your gateway to wealth. Your potential is raw material for your achievement. Therefore you need to allow you potential to “run riot” and give you the success you need. Let me share with you 12 tips to set your potentials on riots. These tips are not limited to the twelve, but for the want of time and space.
First, you need to discover and identify your potentials. What you do not have you cannot give. Therefore you need to discover and identify your hiding potentials. How do you do this? Basically through revelation; Revelation is what you research into through manuals while speculation is through trial and error. Reading helps to discover through revelation. John says in Revelation 1 vs. 3A “Blessed is he who reads…” History revealed how Jesus Christ the great man of Christian Bible, discovers his potentials through The Book, when he opened to read the Book of Prophet Isaiah in the temple – Luke 4: 16-21, history told us ‘Then he closed the book…’ and he unleashed his potentials immediately. But first he discovered it, then he identified it and proclaimed it and started working it. Reading brings revelation. Reading is defined as “ability to look, understand and mentally interpret a written or printed material. Reading births inspiration and insights.
Also through observation of your activities, looking inward to your passion, what you love doing that gives you pleasure; even while you are a little boy, you could by this discover your potentials’ and through doing or practicing what you observe.
Two. To unleash your potentials, you need to decide exactly what you want, and what you want to do with what you have. Napoleon Hill says that “The world has a habit of making room for the man whose words and actions show that he knows where is going”. Deciding exactly what you want is giant step in success and achievement. After identifying your hiding talents (potentials), take time to analyse your personal talents and abilities; look deep into yourself to determine what you really enjoy doing. Identify the tasks and activities that most interest you and hold your attention. You need to know that in your generic code, you have been programmed with remarkable potentials that you can develop to perform certain task extraordinary well. You have been engineered for success from birth. You have within you reservoir of talents and potential skills and abilities that you have not yet tapped into. You have the capacity to do, to be and have virtually anything you put in your mind to do. But first accept the responsibility of deciding exactly what you really want and then dedicate yourself wholeheartedly to becoming everything you is capable of becoming.
Three, Set and Focus on your goals. Earl Nightingale says “People with goal succeed because they know where they are going”. I have seen the mortuary and I have seen the prisons and I was able to draw some similarities and differences. I have seen mortuary as a deposit of untapped potentials and also the prisons as a deposit of untapped potentials, however while the mortuary harbours wasted (dead) potentials, the prison harbours wasting (living) potentials. There are other potentials that are neither in the mortuary nor in the prisons but are wasting because they do not set goals around their lives. Are you one of them? It will be difficult for you to unleash your potentials without setting goals and focusing on your goals; because your goals create navigation for your potentials. Your goals give you clarity of who you are or who you could be, and what you want to achieve.
Four, Unlock your inborn creativity. Your ability to generate new ideas and innovations can be more important than any other ability you develop. Do you know a secret about you? You are a potential genius! You have more natural intelligence and creativity than you will ever need to achieve all you goals. But your creativity is like muscle if you do not use it, you lose it. If you use your mental abilities, they grow stronger. The more you use your mind to generate ideas, the more and better ideas you come up with to use in every part of your life. To become more creative person you could leverage your strengths and abilities to achieve this: Gain from other peoples knowledge (OPK) through books, through mentoring, conferences and seminars here you will get ideas and insights and will unleash your potentials. You will need to increase your knowledge; learn from other people’s failures and other people’s success; generate your ideas through other people’s ideas. Open up to mentoring.

Five, Develop positive Attitude; your attitude determines your altitude. People who are cheerful and optimistic are likely to realize the fullness of their potentials and benefit from it because to them life is interesting. They see opportunity in difficult situation. Unleashing your potentials could be slow and frustrating, but with positive attitude you will have a springboard to success. Be positive. Proverbs 15 vs. 15 makes us to understand that positive things happen to positive people and negative things happen to negative people.
Six, Ask for what you want. George Bernard Shaw says “The people who get on in this world are people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.” Asking for what you want is one of the success principles. No wonder Jesus said in Mathew 7.7 Ask it shall be giving. The future does not belong to those people who sit back, wishing and hoping that things will improve. Such people are giving their lives to chance, I am sorry they have no chance. The future belongs to those people who set up and ask for what they want, and if they don’t get it right away, they ask again and again. Those who ask receive provided you do ask amiss. What you should be paramount is your future, visualise this thing you want, see it feel it make your mental blue print and then begin to build. You become what you think about most of the time.
Seven, Create a successful image. How you look outside has a major effect on how far you can go. Dress the way you want to be addressed. If you want to be a big success, to be accepted and respected by others, you must look like the kind of person others can admire and relate to. You appearance matters, it can hold you back from unleashing your potentials. People evaluate you faster than you think. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Mind what you wear, always dress for success. Always strive to look like a winner,
Eight, Be a problem solver. We are created to be problems solvers, because problems help to exhibit our potentials. Problems are normal unavoidable facts of life. Problems exist from creation. Gen 1:1. This problem helped to bring out God’s potentials of creativity. Likewise our potentials are waiting for problems to unleash itself. A man with potentials for counselling is waiting for people with psychological problems to solve. The better you get to solve problems, the bigger will be the problems you will be given to solve. The bigger and more costly the problems you solve the more you use unleash your potentials and the more power you have, the higher your position and the more money you get. David is always a problem solver, he looks for problems to solve until he landed in the Kings palace and latter became the King.
Nine, Put people first in everything; in business and personal life, people are everything. There is no way your potentials can be unleashed without people. Your level of success and the size of your income will be largely determined by the number of people you know and like you. The more that people like and respect you, the more doors they will open for you and the more obstacles they will remove from your path, and the easier it will be for you to unleash your potentials. Make people feel important.
Ten, Invest in yourself continually commit to excellence. To unleash your potentials dedicate yourself to lifelong learning. I have said much on reading, it cannot be overemphasised; reading helps to discover, identify and unleash your potentials. When you dedicate yourself to lifelong learning, you set yourself apart from the crowd by being one person who is learning and growing at faster rate than anyone else, by this your potential will be enhanced and you will have the confidence and the capacity to unleash it. Brian Tracy gave me 3 keys to lifelong learning, one, Read at least one hour each day and more when you can in the area of your identified potentials or chosen field. (Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body). 1 hr reading per day translates to 1 book per week, which will equal approximately 50 books per year; and 500 books in 10 years. Two, Listen to audio programs in your cars as drive from place to place. Three, take course or seminar that you can find. Spend money and invest in your life. Continuous personal and professional development will unlock more of your potential and open every door for you. Nothing can help you unlock your potentials than becoming one of the most knowledgeable and competent in your field and continuous learning is the key.
Eleven, Develop relationship with God; we have earlier established that God is the author of your potentials. He is your creator, it becomes pertinent therefore to have a good relationship with Him to direct and redirect. For everyone to unleash his potentials needs REVELATION. There is the need to develop close relationship with God in prayers for effective communication and to read the MANUAL for effective directives. David was only successful through his romantic relationship with God. It was so cordial that God declared him a man after my heart. David was a multi-disciplinary and multi- talented being; the secret of his success was GOD. Without him we can do nothing. He has a big role to play in how we unleash our potentials.
Twelve, Take responsibility! What God can do and man cannot do is what we call supernatural. What God can do and man can do but God will not do is what we call natural. It will be an act of irresponsibility on our part to call on or wait upon him to do what man will do. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to unleash your potentials. Take responsibility. When you fail take responsibility and fail forward. When it is difficult, take responsibility and move on. God has not put these things in us not to be wasted it is dangerous. The Danger could be seen in the Parable of Talent as written in the Gospel. Your potentials are the investment of God in you, it could be quantified in Naira and Kobo; you are suppose to trade with it and earn profit (money) and when you fail to do this you become unprofitable servant. What you do with God have given to you is your own gift to your world. The price of greatness is responsibility.
What happens when you unleash your potentials? When you unleash your potentials you rise beyond the average; When you unleash your potentials you become an amazing achiever; When you unleash your potentials you rule your world When you unleash your potentials you get promoted faster and get paid more; When you unleash your potentials you become a champion. You need to be mad about your life.
