It was common during the tenure of the immediate past Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, to get assailed with profanities by personalities who never personified the decorum expected of their positions. We had a Femi Fani-Kayode, whose oratory competence was mischievously put to use in vulgarity. Also, there were Dr. Doyin Okupe and Reuben Abati….they were court jesters attempting to sound intelligent each time they issued Press Release on behalf of their Principal.
Thankfully, the results of the Presidential Election and the swearing in of President Muhammadu Buhari saved us from the harrowing torture we were subjected to. However, its like we only had a momentary respite as we are now seeing an emerging trend of a reenactment of the past process…verbal diarrhoea is gradually effusing from the Towers down to the lanes and streets.
Adams Oshiomole is the Executive Governor of Edo State and a member of President Buhari’s Economic team. Father Matthew Kukah is the Catholic Archbishop of Sokote Diocese of Nigeria. Two gifted Nigerians that had stood at the vanguard of masses emancipation from the hands of inconsiderate leadership. The former, for so many years, was a Labour activist who rose to the position of the President, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC. The former, a clergyman with a difference, using the pulpit and the media effectively. He was crusading for the betterment of the masses. These intelligent individuals are however, doing more damage to the hard won reputation…they are spewing verbal diarrhoea all over the place.

Oshiomole, without decorum and regard for the need to exhibit maturity has been reeling series of figures of money ” embezzled” by Jonathan administration to the point of making it a personal issue between him and the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy ( nonsensical nomenclature) Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. If he is not telling us what the Americans told Buhari during the latter’s State visit to the States, he will be telling us where our monies are! So, I asked myself why the need for a Committee when an Adam Oshiomole knows everything?
Father Kukah, on his part has taken a new vocation. While John the Baptist voice resonated in the wilderness proclaiming the first coming of Jesus Christ, Father Kukah’s voice is proclaiming the spectacularity of President Jonathan’s decision to accept the outcome of the Presidential Election without resorting to violence. To him, this “spectacular”act is enough an immunity to Jonathan…indeed, no matter the level of corruption that was done under GEJ watch, the administration of President Buhari should just overlook them! And he goes using all available media to spread this “gospel of spectacular acceptance”.
Hmmm, I am amazed. How did these gentlemen become so reckless and less tactful in handling the responsibilities attached to their secular and scriptural positions? Is it a case of pride or a case of compromise? Or will it be right to say that they have become so used to talking that the sound of their voices have deafened their eardrums to the point that they now hear “recorded messages” that had long become irrelevant to the development of our nation and people? While we ponder over these questions, can we at least mitigate on the effects of this verbal diarrhoea from the towers.
