It is yet another time of the year when the best golfers from across the country converge at the Ikeja Club to test their wits on the greens, and also celebrate with the captain of the club.

It is the 2017 Ikeja Golf Club Captain’s Day celebration and everybody associated with the club is ready to rumble. Yesterday was the turn of the Caddies and Club workers, who took over the field in search of some trophies and other goodies donated by the club’s sponsors.

Today the Veterans will take to the course in what has been described as the battle of the oldies.

Speaking at the Club House yesterday, Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Akin Areola revealed that tomorrow will be the turn of lady golfers, who will compete alongside their counterparts from across the country.

The Captain’s Special Kitty competition will tee off on Thursday and this will see members and invited golfers compete for honours.

Areola said, “There are lots of trophies and prizes at stake for the Captain’s Special Kitty competition which is sponsored by Pepsi.”

He further disclosed that the main competition will come up Friday and Saturday. He broke it down. “On Friday players with handicap 19-28 and some invited guests will take to the course. They will play morning and afternoon, while on Saturday, those with handicap 1-18 will play in two sessions also.”

He explained that play was broken into two sessions because of the size of the course. “We are going to have over 500 golfers competing. Only that way can we accommodate all,” he emphasised.

The week-long event will climax with prize presentation and a dinner night on Saturday.
