Prior to 2023, Senator Lamido’s only political trajectory was being a member of the DPP. After which he left to get appointment with the federal ministry of foreign affairs where he worked in the Nigerian Embassy in Niger Republic.
For most observers, the best they knew about Lamido was that he often come around to greet Senator Wanakko occasionally.
And all of a sudden, Lamido who is also a heir to the Sultanate throne joined Wamakko in the the political voyage in 2022 following the Senator Wamakko to all possible gatherings.
HOW LAMIDO BECAME AN OPTION
As the political cloud gathered momentum ahead of 2023 general elections, the incumbent Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Senator Ibrahim Gobir entered the state gubernatorial race.
Though, insiders have outrightly speculated then that the State Political godfather, Senator Wamakko had annointed Ahmed Aliyu, that however never deterred others hence option of primary elections.
The 2023 primary election for Sokoto APC governorship ticket saw Ahmed Aliyu, Senator Ibrahim Gobir, Hon. Faruk Malami Yabo, and Abdullahi Abubakar Gumbi test their might.
The 2023 APC governorship primary election as discribed by pundits was nothing but a political manaouver geared towards favouring an individual as Ahmed Aliyu, Senator Wamakko’s annointed candidate eventually won.
Disturbed by what they perceived as injustice, some of the contestant left the APC in protest while others like Senator Ibrahim Gobir stayed back but can’t return back to the Senate. And Col. Garba Moyi who defected from Tambuwal’s government as Special Adviser on Security Matters would have been considered hence he is from that region, but was considered not having enough for the race.
Considering Senator’s Gobir’s position being vacant and the fact that he contested against Senator Wamakko interest, Lamido a green horn in the political landscape became the available option
That was how Lamido was given the ticket that eventually culminated to his accidental politician.
HOW WAMAKKO/ LAMIDO CRISIS BEGAN
After wining elections in 2023 and the All Progress Congress in Sokoto desolved the local government chairmen and constitute sole-adminitrators.
As the process begun, Lamido brought his closest ally Maniru Mainasara whom many alleged to be his house help in Kaduna to be given caretaker committee chairman of Isa local government. Lamido’s request was however turned down and the slot given to Col. Garba Moyi (rtd), to bring a candidate as compensation for denying him the Sokoto East Senatorial ticket.
Col. Moyi on his part gave the local government caretaker slot to one of his political allies, Isa Mohammed Dandela. This development got Senator Lamido upset, as he felt betrayed by Wamakko.
Resultantly, Lamido pulled off completely from anything that concerns APC affairs in Sokoto.

Another development that further soiled their relationship was said to be the election of he President of the Senate. It was alleged that Senator Wamakko preferred Senator Abdulaziz Yari to become the President of the Senate while his own political son, Senator Ibrahim Lamido turned against Wamakko to back now Senate President Godswill Apkabio.
Though, both sides kept silled mouth on that development, but what eventually broke the carmel’s back, was the conclusion that, Senator Lamido lacks political maturity and submissive attitude, according to insiders.
IS LAMIDO’s POLITICAL FUTURE HANGING IN THE BALANCE?
After the completion of APC’s ward, local government and State Congress in Sokoto without Senator Lamido’s presence, observers noted that he eventually announced his own factional leadership.
Senator Lamido was said to have announced former APC chairman, Goronyo local government, Hon Kabiru Sarkin Fulani as his state chairman and Lamir Sahabi as State Secretary.
Deflating Senator Lamido’s party membrship authenticity, Sokoto State chairman of APC. Hon. Adiya Haruna said Senator Lamido is no more a member of the APC hence he refused to renew his membership
“Lamido doesn’t revalidate his memberehip with the APC. And that goes to show that he has quitely pulled himself off
“And the electronic registration that we did was to help know who and who is still a member of the party”. Hon. Adiya noted.
IS LAMIDO’s POLITICAL FUTURE HANGING IN THE BALANCE?
As political activities ahead of 2027 general elections gradually picks up, pundits are now asking if Senator Lamido’s continuity in the politics is still feasible, hence, he hasn’t openly associated with any political party in the State.
Though, there are speculations that, Ibrahim Lamido, the Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District might be heading to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Efforts to speak with Senator Lamido on where he belongs politically proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling the report, however, all his political followers and appointees where said to have defected to the ADC.
Also reacting to whether Senator Lamido has officially joined the ADC, Sokoto state chairman of the party, Hon. Abdullahi Maigwandu said the response would be better gotten from Lamido himself.
All fingers are now crossed as the State awaits political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. Pundits however are of the opinion that should Lamido choses to join the ADC, the party might likely make impact in the coming elections considering the number of lives he has touched positively in the region.
Others however deflated that assumption, calling it a mere wish that will never come to pass because of his inability to physically present identify with his people, especially condolences and other expected public gatherings in the Senatorial District. But as things stands, only time shall tell how the political discourse would swing in the coming months.
