Former President, Olusegun Obansanjo has enjoined Nigerian Christians
to be attuned with scripture and follow Jesus Christ’s teaching in
preparation for the kingdom of God.
Giving this charge at the 2017 camp meeting concert of Apostolic Faith
Church at the Camp Ground, Igbesa, Ogun State, Obasanjo said if the
rendition by the church’s choir and orchestra was anything to go by,
that he would like to go to heaven to sing with the angels.
“With what I have seen this afternoon by the choir, I will want to go
to heaven and join the host to sing. If this is an example of what the
praising of God in heaven will be, then I want to part of it, if what
I have seen here is an indication of how heaven will be, I believe in
Jesus and I know His grace will get me there”, he said.
While urging Christians to be fully prepared for the second coming of
Jesus Christ, he added that there is no compromise in the divine
salvation.
“Jesus Christ came to the world to show us the way to salvation and
eternal life, so we must follow the laid down steps and teachings for
there are no half measures in the ways of the Lord.
He said that Nigerians have a good heritage and everything to be proud
of, and if leaders and citizens alike can call God sincerely, Nigeria
will be a lot better.
“God can fix Nigeria, and if we as Nigerians invite God into our lives
individually and collectively, things will change for good in our
nation.
“We have a lot of things wrong in this country, but they can be fixed
by God if we invite Him into our lives. What we have to do about this
country is in our hands. God’s grace abounds when we do not abuse it,”
he said.
Also, the District Superintendent, West and Central Africa (WECA),
Apostolic Faith Church, Rev. Adebayo Adeniran said that to achieve
meaningful development and harmony, Nigerians must coexist peacefully
and tolerate one another.
“Irrespective of religious and political differences, only tolerance,
peaceful coexistence and harmonious living amongst Nigerians can lead
to meaningful development”, he said.
He said all hands must be on deck to build once again a virile nation,
where love and harmony, forgiveness and peace, equity and prosperity
would reign supreme.
“By the grace of God, our country’s shoulders will be raised high once
again and we will be respected in the comity of nations. All Nigerians
irrespective of religion should pray for the resurrection of what our
nation has lost.
“Nigerians should remain patient in the face of political and
religious intolerance, insecurity and economic hardships, God will
make us triumph over all of them,” he said.
He also urged Christians to pray for the country’s leaders to lead the
citizens with the fear of God.
“We should pray for fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our leaders
so that they can lead us a right. We must not trade the unity of our
nation; the federal character of our nation must be
respected.”Therefore as a nation, those who have the responsibility of the
nation should ensure there is a true federation, they must establish
trust among the leaders and the led, they must work for the unity of
our country”, he added.
