Associate Professor at the Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Dr. Abdullahi Bashir, has said that some traditional media organisations may go extinct due to their failure to embrace convergence journalism.
The MAUTECH Communication lecturer believes that hard copy newspapering, television and radio terrestrial broadcasting that ignores convergence media may not last.

While presenting a paper on Convergence Media at a three-day workshop organised for North East journalists by Dangote Group and Folio Media Creative Academy in Yola, Adamawa State, yesterday, the don said: “Practitioners of today must begin to fit into different aspects of the media industry. Convergence media entails being able to produce, create and disseminate content for different platforms.
You must be dynamic, with the ability to report for radio, television, newspaper/magazine and new media platforms. Same goes to media outfits that are not going the way of media convergence today are risking being irrelevant.
“Today, not many people read hard copy newspapers. Media outfits should be going with technological advancement,” he said.
He urged journalists to seek more knowledge and be multi-skilled in the profession.
“Not all the media organisations can afford to pay their employees today. They want you to be able to produce news content for social media, TV, radio, podcasts, newspaper and magazine etc,” he added.
