A trader, Funmilayo Ogunleye, yesterday appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N150,000 and failing to return it within the two months she promised.
Ogunleye, 46, who lives at Alagbado, Lagos, is being tried for obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clifford Ogu said the defendant committed the offences last November 5 at Alagbado.
He alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected the money from the complainant, Mr. Wasiu Yusuf, with a promise to pay him back within two months.

“After the defendant had collected the money from the complainant, she was nowhere to be found.
”Efforts by the complainant to collect his money from the defendant proved unsuccessful, as the defendant refused to pick calls made to his phone.
“The defendant was apprehended nine months after and handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.
He said the offences contravened sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Following the defendant’s plea of not guilty, Magistrate J. A. Adegun granted her N100,000 bail with one surety in the like sum.
He said the surety must be employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
