World Cup view centres open across Lagos

In keeping with his promise of providing viewing centres for live telecast of football actions during the World Cup in Russia, the Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has opened some across the state.

The centres were opened to fans on Day One of the Mundial on Thursday June 14, 2018 for the opening ceremony, as well as the opening match between the hosts, Russia and Saudi Arabia. The centres close on July 15, 2018.

According to the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, the locations include Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Campos Mini Stadium Lagos Island, Abesan Estate, Alimosho, Naval Yard Ajegunle, Bishop Aggrey School Mushin and Epe Recreation Centre and free.

“The government has made adequate provisions for medical coverage, adequate security, traffic control and general sanitation at all the viewing centres. A Public Liability Insurance Cover is also in place covering the six centres for the period of the World Cup.

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who is a member of the Federal Government’s delegation to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup finals wants Lagosians to have a feel of football action in the ongoing World Cup and he believes the viewing centres will also serve as fun and relaxation spots for the people,” Tandoh said.
