Indigenous art auction house, Terra Kulture and Mydrim Gallery Art Auction (TKMG), is set to hold its ninth auction on July 27, 2018. The event will feature a carefully curated collection of some of West Africa’s most notable artists.

First instituted in 2010, it took an abrupt time-out last year, after its consistent yearly run from inception to 2016. Last year, the auction house had its hands full with the organisation of the Lagos Art Fair at the instance of the Lagos State government.

Meanwhile, activities around the event, which holds at the Terra Kulture premises along Tiamiyu Savage Street in Victoria Island, have already begun with a preview opening and cocktail on Friday, July 20.

Curator for Terra Kulture Art Gallery, Ugonna Ibe-Ejiogu, said: “I am very excited about Lagos Art Auction 2018, as we have an even stronger collection of works; a number of them have already been reserved. For the first time and, as part of the programme, we are giving two emerging artists the opportunity to showcase their work and benefit from expert critique by notable artists and seasoned collectors. While the selected works will not be up for sale at the auction, this will certainly be invaluable exposure for the finalists and we hope that it becomes a catalyst for their career growth.”

To help the artistic growth of younger ones a contest was opened, where they had opportunity to show their work before the main auction.

In the contest, they were advised to follow @terrakultureartgallery and @mydrim_gallery on Instagram, post a clear picture of their works on Instagram page, including the title, medium, year and description of work and use #LagosArtAuction2018 and #tkmgauctionhouse, and tag @terrakultureartgallery and @mydrim_gallery in the caption.

TKMG Auction House chose five semi-finalists and their works featured on @terrakultureartgallery Instagram page. The two artists with the highest number of likes will showcase their work at the opening night preview of Lagos Art Auction.

Though the two artists will have the chance to feature at the Lagos Art Auction, Ibe-Ejiogu said their works would not be up for sale at the auction, however, it is certainly going to be an invaluable exposure fo their career growth.
