The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila failed to name the principal officers for the House on Tuesday.

This is three weeks after his election as the Speaker of the House, and it was widely expected that the names will be announced today, especially as the Senate announced it’s own principal officers.

There has been intensive speculations by members and also the media on who occupies what positions following the emergence of Gbajabiamila and his Deputy, Idris Wase as Speaker and Deputy respectively.

Meanwhile, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan has announced the principal officers of the Senate on Tuesday.

However, a member of the House ad hoc committee on media and Publicity, Hon. Bamidele Solam, representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo federal Constituency in Osun, put the situation in context while giving reporters a brief after plenary Tuesday.

According to him, the consultation on the matter is yet to be concluded.

He said: “it was not announced because there’s need for a wider and further consultations by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to be sure that whatever is going to be announced is in consonance with the provision of our rules.

” Before the week runs out, there will be an announcement of all the other principal officers of the House”, he said. [THE NATION]
