In politics, a bump in the road becomes a lump in the throat, which then becomes a pain in the neck- and soon enough turns cancerous- thus granting Change and Mortality a decisive, irreversible blow. No physical harm is ever done in comedy, even if there was the slightest one intended. Suffice to state that “bruised” egos heal quicker than compound fractures.
