Giant killer, Sylvester Emmanuel, will today clash with number two seed, Abdulmumuni Babalola, while defending champion, Sarah Adegoke, squares up with, Christy Agugbom, in the men and women’s 40th edition of the CBN Open Senior Tennis Championship finals holding at the Package ‘B’ of the National Stadium in Abuja.

Emmanuel yesterday came from one game down to beat Clifford Enosoregbe 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in one of the two semi-final matches to come face to face with the defending champion, Abdulmumuni Babalola. Babalola defeated Uche Oparaoji 6-1, 6-3 in the second semi-finals.

To book a berth in today’s women’s final, Adegoke, who is the former champion, yesterday defeated Patience Oneamhoin 6-3, 6-1 in the semi final, while Agugbom came from one game down to beat tournament number seed, Blessing Samuel 5-7, 76 on 4, 6-3.

Speaking on his win over Oparaoji, Babalola expressed joy playing the final back-to-back.

“I’m happy reaching the final again this year having won the same trophy last year.

But I must confess that it is never a do-or-die. Sylvester is equally a good player.

“For getting this far when many players including the top seed, Joseph Imeh, had fallen by the wayside, means that both of us have what it takes to win the title.

“Though it will be tough, I will still play my normal game. I did not expect myself to come this far after the hectic Davies Cup play-off but here I am again. I thank God for everything,” Babalola stated.
