The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) has described as unsolicited and diversionary the legal action filed by the Coalition of Political Parties (CUPP) asking that President Muhammadu Buhari be declared medically unfit to contest the forthcoming presidential election
According to the support group, it is becoming glaring that the opposition is bereft of programmes and clear-cut manifesto to hinge its campaign on, and to cover up for the deficiencies, it has resorted to distorting facts and realities on ground.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja last week, the spokesman of CUPP, Ikenga Ugochinyere, had announced that the coalition had sought for an order directing Buhari to make public the result of his medical examination.
But in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by its director of Communications and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, the BCO said that the opposition parties were merely diverting attention from the sad reality that they have fallen short of what to tell Nigerians in the ongoing campaigns.
Ibrahim said: “Severally, we have had cause to draw the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the fact that the opposition in the country had been flouting the commission’s rules of engagement in the campaigns by spreading fake news and making inciting remarks.
“The same opposition elements who had prayed for President Muhammadu Buhari’s death while on medical vacation in London claim they have gone to court to challenge the president’s health. This is part of their strategy to cover up for their lack of clear-cut manifesto to engage the ruling party in constructive campaign for the 2019 elections.
“But the character of their mental indolence is understood. They are disappointed to see President Buhari on the roof of his car campaigning and attracting huge crowd everywhere he goes to campaign. But we invite more cerebral Nigerians to be the judge here by ascertaining whether CUPP’s latest outburst and the suit it claimed it filed are not a reflection of their mental unfitness.
On the allegation by CUPP’s spokesman of plot by the Department of State Services (DSS) to frame, arrest, charge and eliminate him, the BCO saidthat it amounts to crying wolf where there is none.
Ibrahim noted: “In this business of pulling President Buhari down at all cost, Ugochinyere is beginning to create an exaggerated air of importance about himself to the extent that he thinks he has become too important for the DSS to waste precious time plotting his arrest. He is not only labouring under a delusion; he is in the shadow of his own goal post.
“He claims the purported plan to arrest him is to stop him from releasing fresh evidence of plot to allegedly steal N5 billion from DSS election account by former DG DSS Lawal Daura and indicting documents of false assets declaration by key Buhari appointees. But if he truly has such evidence as he claims, why not release them instead of raising false alarm? Why not release the evidence at the press conference before the arrest plot is perfected?
“PDP and their spin doctors should come up with serious campaign issues. They should dwell on concrete facts instead of spreading fake news. Once again, we urge well-meaning Nigerians to remain steadfast and be rest assured that President Buhari will return in 2019 to continue the great work his administration is doing to revive our economy, the power sector, agriculture, roads and tackle corruption head on,” he said.
