Terrorists believed to be members of the notorious Bello Turji’s network killed at least two people and forced many residents to flee Bargaja town in Isa Local Government Area, Sokoto State over the weekend, locals confirmed.
Bargaja, one of the few communities in Sokoto Eastern Senatorial District that had consistently resisted attacks from Turji’s fighters, faced a deadly assault despite efforts by local vigilantes.

According to security analyst Bashiru Altine Giyawa, the vigilantes engaged the attackers in a fierce gunfight, but two of them, identified as Umaru Biri and Garba Mumminu, lost their lives.
“Several of the bandits were also killed, but their bodies were taken into forest hideouts by fellow fighters,” Altine added.
Eyewitnesses described the situation as tense, with repeated attacks by Turji’s network causing widespread killings and displacement. Women and children have been particularly affected, fleeing to safer areas.
DSP Ahmed Rufai, spokesperson for the Sokoto Police Command, said authorities are investigating a video circulating on social media to confirm the incident. He assured that security agencies are working to restore calm and safeguard residents in the affected areas.
