Buhari Wins 14 LGs In Ogun To Defeat Atiku

President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated Alhaji Atiku Abukakar of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential election held last Saturday across Ogun state.

In the presidential election results declared by the state collation Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun, Professor Joseph Adeola-Fuwape, the APC presidential candidate polled a total of 281, 762 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, who pulled a total of 194, 655 votes.

 

The State Collation Officer explained that the total number of registered voters in Ogun stood at 2, 336, 887 out of which 613, 397 voters were accredited to vote.

 

Adeola-Fuwape said the total number of votes cast stood at 605, 938 out of which a total valid votes stood at 564, 256, while 41, 682 were rejected.

 

A breakdown of the total votes pulled by the APC presidential candidate however, indicated that Buhari won in 14 out of the 20 local governments of the state, while his challenger, Atiku won only in six local governments.

 

The local governments won by the APC presidential candidate are: Ifo, Ado-Odo/Ota, Abeokuta South, Ikene, Obafemi-Owode, Egbado South, Sagamu, Abeokuta North as well as Odeda local governments.

 

Others included Ijebu North East, Ijebu-Ode, Ewekoro, Ipokia and Egbado North local governments.

 

The six local governments won by the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar however, included: Ogun-Waterside, Imeko-Afon, Remo North, Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Odogbolu.

 

Speaking earlier, the commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun, Professor Abdulganiy Raji said the commission officials in Ijebu East were forced to cancel the election results in the entire Ajebamdele Ward where malpractices (over-voting) was discovered at Polling Unit 06.

 

Raji explained that the cancellation did not affect the declaration of the election results in the entire local government.
