The final of the football event of the 2018 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games will feature Chevron against Exxon Mobil after the two teams won their semi final matches against Shell and PTI respectively.

It was Exxon Mobi that first booked their place in the final when they dispatched hard-fighting PTI 2-0 in the first semi final played yesterday morning at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Lagos.

The second semi final was a tie that had all the trappings of a great match as it witnessed two of the best sides in the competition take on each other. As expected, spectators were kept on the edges of their seats throughout the encounter.

An early strike in the 5th minute by Chima Elibe for Chevron was the goal that separated these two giants.Team Shell did all it could, but the resilient Chevron defence line kept them at bay to maintain their lead to the interval.

On resumption for the second half, Shell mounted more pressure but Chevron, who was enjoying the advantage of having ex-international Yisa Sofoluwe in the dugout, thwarted all their moves till the end of the encounter.

In a post-match chat, Sofoluwe said: “we put in everything to achieve this result. Our opponents were great but we were better.”Looking ahead, Sofoluwe said: “we will go back to the drawing board and ensure all the loopholes are blocked before the final. Our players who have injuries today would have been healed before then. We will give it our best shot.” The final comes up February 24 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere Lagos.
