Customs Recover 30,150 Litres Benin Republic-Bound Fuel

Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, in a midnight operation intercepted 30,150 litres of petrol allegedly being smuggled to Benin Republic.

This is coming barely two weeks after a similar recovery was made by officers of the command.

The Controller Seme Area Command, Bello Mohammed Jibo, said the latest seizure was made on Wednesday, January 12, 2021.

Jibo revealed that the seizure is in continuation of the command’s efforts to suppress the smuggling of petroleum products in the area.

He said officers and men of the command while on routine patrol along the creeks within Seme and Badagry intercepted the large quantities of petroleum products in sacks.

He said the product was evacuated to the command premises, where the examination was conducted.

The examination revealed 1005 jerry cans of petroleum product, 30 litre each, equivalent to 30,150 litres;  with the duty paid value (DPV) of N6, 974, 750.00,” he said.

He added that the new Landcruiser patrol vehicles (Buffalo) provided by the management of the NCS has aided the operation of the command because before now, some of the creeks and beaches were not accessible but now with the aid of these Buffalo vehicles we are able to access .
