Super Eagles’ left-back, Elderson Echiejile has returned to French club, AS Monaco after a successful six-month loan spell at Dutch side, Cercle Brugge.

The former Braga and Bendel Insurance defender joined AS Monaco in January 2014 and had a successful time with the team until a change in backroom staff forced the club to loan him out.

Echiejile has since been loaned out to Standard Liege, Sporting Gijon, Sivasspor, and most recently Cercle Brugge in the past three seasons.
In a chat with brila.net, Elderson said he was training at the club to keep fit as he decides on where he will lace his boots in the coming season.

“I am currently with the lads, who were at the World Cup and some of those who are a bit injured here in Monaco… we started training today.

“Though the team is on tour in Germany, we have like eight of us training here,” Echiejile said.

Having tested football in Portugal, France, Turkey and Holland, it is still not clear if the 30-year-old will want to remain in mainstream Europe or fancy a move to the Far East as he disclosed he is waiting on his agent to iron out a deal for him ahead of the coming football season.

Echiejile remains Nigeria’s only natural left back playing at the highest level, although, the 2013 AFCON winner was an unused substitute during the Super Eagles’ World Cup campaign in Russia.
