The Enugu State Police Command, on Thursday, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abubakar Lawal, had never asked anyone to pay ransom to kidnappers in the state.
The CP stated this while reacting to a report that he asked the Agu-Amede community residents to pay ransom to kidnappers when an eight-year-old girl was abducted in November.

A member of the community had told our correspondent that the CP asked them if they had started negotiating with the kidnappers in order not to jeopardise her security.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, denied that the CP made such a statement, wondering how a police commissioner would encourage kidnap victims’ families to pay ransom to their abductors.
