The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, on Thursday, claimed that the administration of a former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, did not inaugurate a “single project” in the Yewa area of the state for the eight years he spent in office.

Olugbenle said he was not happy with the former governor over his alleged failure to complete projects despite commencing some in the area.

The paramount ruler said this at the inauguration of the Yewa People Development Council and end of the year reception of the Yewa Traditional Council at Ilaro.

The monarch lamented that the people of the area had not felt the impact of the government in the last 10 years.

He said, “I was not always happy with the last government whenever I was invited to other places to come and inaugurate projects. While here, it is only turning of the sod for eight years.

“I will go and dance with them in other places, while nobody has come here to dance with me to inaugurate a project.”

Oba Olugbenle, however, said the Dapo Abiodun administration had been listening to the yearnings of the Yewa people.
He noted that there was a need for the Yewa people to come together to change the narrative of underdevelopment in the area.

The first class monarch added, “In the last 10 years, this is the first time we are having a government that has a listening ear to our problems.

“Let’s speak with one voice. Let’s face the role and I can assure you that very soon, our narrative of neglect and underdevelopment in Ogun West will change for the good.”

In his address, the Chairman, YPDC, Prof Rahmon Bello, said the formation of the council was to prevent social exclusion and promote effective development of Yewaland.
Bello explained that the YPDC would serve as a council for all development-oriented organisations in Yewaland.

The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos noted that the region could not continue to wait for the government to bring development to the Yewa area.

He stressed that YPDC would liaise with government at all levels to bring growth and development to Yewaland.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, commended the Yewa people for the initiative.

She noted that the initiative was in tandem with the ISEYA agenda of the Abiodun administration.

Attempts to get reactions from Amosun failed as he could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.

A text message sent to his mobile telephone had not been replied as of the time of filing this report.
