Four Ekiti Men Remanded For Stealing Laptop, Phones

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of four men in a custodial centre for allegedly robbing some residents of their belongings, including a laptop, a wristwatch and phones.

The defendants, Phillip Michael, Felix Sylvester, Ibrahim Aliu and Adavize Stanley, were arraigned on Tuesday by the Ekiti State Police Command for conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, said the defendants “were reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of conspiracy to commit armed robbery on Olabanji Quadri, Owolabi Mubarak and George Olufemi Oluwatobi in Igede Ekiti on November 9, 2021, at Igede Ekiti, in the Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.”

“According to one of the victims, the defendants were armed with short and long guns; they forcibly entered their apartment around 4am and carted away their property, including a laptop, a power bank, a wristwatch, phones, and the sum of N10,000.

“The offences run contrary to sections 6 and 1(2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap.398 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004,” he added.

The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, remanded the defendants pending legal advice and adjourned the case till January 7, 2022 for mention.
