A prominent spiritual leader in the country, Sat Guru Maharaji, has called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to ensure speedy payment of the compensations awarded to victims of police brutality by various commissions of inquiry set up by state governments.

Maharaji said this in an interview with our correspondent in Ibadan.

The Federal Government had asked states to institute panels to probe allegations of killing, maiming and other forms of brutality committed by the police, especially the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Maharaji also advocated better welfare and treatment for policemen, saying some of them behaved the way they did because of the situation they found themselves.

He said, “We call on President Buhari to act like the father of the nation and pay those who have been awarded compensations by various judicial commissions of enquiry.

Not only that, they (Federal Government) should take care of the police who suffered injustice; they are also Nigerians”

Speaking on the agitation for self-determination currently rocking the country, Maharaji, who calls himself the Perfect Living Master, said enforcing strict compliance to the laws of the land would stem such agitations.
